The Portfolio Dashboard visualizes the status of your project portfolio in a clear overview. Configure the charts you need to visualize your data in a way that's easy to understand.
Where to Find
In the left sidebar, click Portfolio Dashboard to access your Portfolio Dashboard.
To choose what data will be taken into account when creating your dashboard, select Date Range, Portfolio or Scenario in the header at the top of your screen. To learn which other filters you can define for each card, see below.
The allocation unit is inherited from the Portfolio Designer: If hours are configured in the currently selected custom view of the Portfolio Designer, the Portfolio Dashboard will also display hours. If FTE or days are selected in the Portfolio Designer, the Portfolio Dashboard will display days.
Information Panel
Click one of the icons in the right sidebar to open the Information Panel. When you select a project, you can find its Overview, Project Comments, Change Log and (if configured) Jira link there.
How to Configure
You can configure doughnut, bar and column charts as well as KPIs to visualize your data. This allows you to see the current status of your portfolio, identify need for action and make decisions on portfolio plans.
Adding and Editing Cards
In the toolbar, select Add Card and choose the type of chart or visualization you would like to add to your dashboard:
You can configure multiple cards with the same type of diagram. To edit or delete a card, hover over the card and select the pencil or the trash icon in the top right corner of the card. You can configure up to 12 cards in a custom view.
When configuring doughnut, bubble (color), column (x-axis) or bar charts, you can choose from the following fields:
- All custom fields of the following types:
- Single-select (e.g., Status)
- Checkbox (e.g., Need for Decision)
- Resource (e.g., Deputy Project Manager)
- Top level OBS, e.g., department
- The following system fields:
- Project Manager
- Business Goal
- Cost Type
- Rank Category
When configuring KPI cards, the y-axis of a column chart or the axes and size of a bubble chart, you can choose from these fields:
- All custom fields of the Number type
- The following system fields:
- All financial key figures
- All Allocation and Actuals KPIs
- Number of Projects (not in bubble charts)
- Number of Resources (KPI cards only)
- This KPI reflects the relevant resources in your portfolio, having been filtered via any relevant resource filter in the Portfolio Designer. If there is no resource filter configured, it will count all resources.
Details List - Displaying All Projects with the Same Value
By clicking a color in a bar, column or doughnut chart, a new section will open below the card with a list of all of the projects that have been assigned to the value the color represents.
The new section displays the project names, project keys and project managers as the default. You can also configure the columns in this list to display any important information. Hover over the top right corner of a card and click the three dots, then select Configure Details List. The configuration of the list applies only to the specific card.
If you would like to learn more about a project, move your mouse over a row and click the square symbol at the far right in order to open the project's details.
Filtering Cards
For each card, you can filter in order to display the relevant data. Hover over the title of a card and click the filter icon that appears:
You can select from the following fields:
- All custom fields of the single-select type, e.g., Status
- All custom fields of the multi-select type
- All custom fields of the checkbox type, e.g., Need for Decision
- All custom fields of the resource type, e.g., Deputy Project Manager
- Top level OBS, e.g., department
- Project Manager
- Business Goal
- Rank Category
- Project Type
You can use several filters at the same time to further limit the results. Learn more in the Ad-Hoc Project Filters article.
Adjusting the Layout
Move the cards to the place they fit best to bring the most import data into view. Simply hover over the top right corner of a card and, using the drag handle, move it to the desired place.
You can also change a card's size to account for its relevance, or to better fit the available space. Hover over the bottom right corner of a card and drag the arrow icon to make it larger or smaller.
Save Your Configuration as a Custom View
You can save every configuration of the Portfolio Dashboard as a Custom View. Click the custom view name next to the title Portfolio Dashboard to select a different view or add a new view. To edit the view name or delete the view, click the three dots next to the view name. Depending on your user rights, you can also define access rights to the view for users and user groups.

Available Charts and Visualizations
Bar Chart
Bar Charts are especially helpful with smaller numerical values, such as displaying planned costs by Stage Gate in your portfolio.
We recommend selecting a field with a maximum of 12 options for the X-axis so that the chart is easy to read.
Bubble Chart
Bubble Charts help you visualize up to four different parameters and how they interact in your portfolio.
Select variables for the X and Y axes to create a classic scatter chart. You can additionally configure the color of the bubbles and what variable determines their size to make a Bubble Chart.
Column Chart
To effectively use a Column Chart, select any field for the x-axis, and any numerical field for the y-axis. This allows you to see the relationship between these two different variables within your portfolio,
Column charts are good for larger numerical values, like financial information.
Doughnut Chart
Doughnut Charts are great ways to get a general overview of how a specific field is displayed over your portfolio. For example, selecting a Doughnut Chart with the Risk Level lets you know visually how many projects are high risk, and how many are running smoothly.
When adding a new doughnut chart, the Number of Projects is set as second variable by default and displayed when hovering over the chart. You can easily change this variable to see any other pertinent metric.
For a simple, visually pleasing way to view a percentage-based analysis of a single-select field in your portfolio, we suggest using a Doughnut Chart.
KPI
The KPI card provides you with a summary of the selected KPI. All KPIs can be selected from, except for those with a percentage value.
When you add a new KPI card and select a KPI, the KPI name will be entered as the card’s name. You can edit the name of the card at any point.
KPI cards are great for fiscal information, like Total Net Value or Approved Budget; you can also benefit from using KPI cards for summaries of allocations in your portfolio, like Total Approved Effort.
Milestone List
The Milestone List will display all of the milestones in your portfolio. When first configuring the Milestone List, milestones will be filtered to exclusively show upcoming milestones.
You can edit this name and filter at any point.
