Business Goals in the Goals View
Each project can be assigned to one business goal.
Overview of the Goals View
- The List of Projects displays a Business Goal Indicator: each project assigned to a business goal shows the associated color.
- The Toolbar lets you Add Projects and Programs (see the Adding, Editing or Viewing a Project and Working with Programs articles for details) or Search them (list will be filtered to display only projects and programs matching your search term.) The allocation unit is inherited from whatever setting is saved in the (custom) Portfolio Designer view.
- Pie Charts for All Business Goals display the proportions of Projects, Total Cost, Benefit and Workload by business goal, considering all projects above the cut-off line. The gray segments represent projects without a business goal.
- Individual Business Goals and Associated Pie Charts are displayed by color.
- Projects without a Business Goal and Associated Pie Charts are displayed in the gray box.
- Click the large plus icon to Add a New Goal
Pie Charts for All Business Goals
Above the view, the proportions of all business goals (by color) as well as of projects without a business goal (gray), are displayed for the following figures, considering all projects above the cut-off line:
- The Projects (number) and Workload charts are always visible.
- The Total Cost and Benefit charts are only displayed if you are using one or both financial values.
Editing Business Goals
Hover over the box of a business goal and click the desired area to change the title, description or color by that business goal or delete it:
The description field must be a maximum of 32,000 characters.
Pie Charts for Individual Business Goals
Up to four pie charts are visible for each business goal:
- The Projects (number) and Workload charts are always visible.
- The Total Cost and Benefit charts are only displayed if you are using one or both financial values.
In each pie chart, only projects above the cut-off line are taken into account:
- The colored piece represents the portion of the current business goal out of all projects above the cut-off line.
- The light-colored part represents the projects between the must-have and cut-off lines.
- The part with the more saturated color represents the projects above the must-have line.
Pie Charts for Projects without a Business Goal
The same pie charts are displayed for projects without a business goal.
Here, the gray segments represent projects without a business goal above the cut-off line:
- The brighter gray represents projects between the must-have and cut-off lines.
- The darker gray represents projects above the must-have line.
Assigning Projects to Business Goals
Each project can be assigned to one business goal. Assign projects to business goals in the Goals view as follows:
- Select a project in the list, hold the mouse button and drag the project to the goals view.
- When you move the project over any business goal, the view will immediately show the effects of the change:
- The list item of the project will show the color of the hovered business goal.
- All pie charts (overall charts, individual business goal charts and charts for projects without a business goal) will be updated to show the effect of assigning the project to the hovered goal.
- Drop the project on a business goal to assign it to this goal.
When editing a project, you can change the project's business goal via the associated field. This is also possible in the Portfolio Designer view.
Business Goals in the Portfolio Designer
In the Portfolio Designer view, you can display business goal colors in the Gantt chart:
- Click the Settings button in the toolbar to open the settings.
- In the Gantt Color Scheme menu, select Business Goal.
- Click the APPLY button to confirm.
The project bars in the Gantt chart will display the colors of the associated business goals. Projects without a business goal and programs will be colored gray.
To display the guide to these colors, click on the palette icon in the Information Panel.
Business Goals in the Roadmap
In the Roadmap, you can group all projects in your current Portfolio, Scenario and Date Range by their Business Goal. Simply click Group By:
