Save Time by Preparing Your System
If you haven't done so already, we recommend you prepare your Meisterplan system so that you save time during import. See the 1. Initial Configuration article for step-by-step instructions.

Best Practice: Start Fast, Extend Later

Before you add or import your data to Meisterplan, we recommend that you decide which information you really need to start making plans. Focusing on what really matters will help you get fast results, and you can always add or import more data later.

Here are some ideas on how to get fast results:

• Import only projects and resources from those departments that benefit the most from portfolio management
• Consider importing only those projects that require management-level decisions. For example projects exceeding a certain budget threshold, or only critical projects.

Help from Others

The larger the company, the more effort it is to import data. It becomes easier if you get others to help! For example, some of our customers let each department head import their projects the first time around, and each team lead their resource data.

If you'd rather be sure that other users don't yet mess around in the tool, you can at least ask others to prepare their data in an Excel sheet, which you then simply import using the Quick Import's copy and paste UI.

Adding or Importing Your Data

There are several options for bringing your data into Meisterplan. Learn below which option is recommended for which data.

Adding Data Manually

If you have only a few projects, resources and allocations, you can simply add them manually to Meisterplan.

Resources are added and edited in the Resource Pool:

Projects can be added and edited in different views, for example, in the Portfolio Designer:

Allocations are added and edited in the Portfolio Designer:

Quick Import

If you have a larger number of projects, resources or allocations in a spreadsheet, you can simply import them into Meisterplan via copy and paste using the Quick Import.

Importing Data from Other Tools

If you maintain data in another application, such as Smartsheet or Jira, use one of our integrations or our REST API to connect your tools to Meisterplan. Depending on the connection, you can also set up an automatic data synchronization between your tool and Meisterplan to save time.
