This article describes how to add, edit or view details of a project in Meisterplan.
You can add projects in Meisterplan either manually or collectively by importing them.
Adding Projects by Import
Availability: Some of the features described in this section are only available in the Pro and Premium Edition.
There are several options for importing projects collectively, and some options can also be automated:
- Adding Projects from Other Tools
- Quick Import via Copy & Paste from Spreadsheets
In this article you will find all details on adding projects manually.
Adding Projects Manually
A new project will be ranked directly below the last selected project.
Therefore, first select the project under which the new project should be inserted by clicking the associated row header.
To add a project to a program, select the desired program first. The project will be inserted into the program at the last position.
When no project or program is selected, new projects will be inserted directly above the Cut-Off line.
Click Add in the toolbar and select Project to create your new project at the selected list position or directly above the Cut-Off line.
Next, enter a Name, a Start date and a Finish date, and click Add:
If you don’t specify a start or end date, the project's length is set automatically according to the selected zoom level in the Portfolio Designer as follows:
Standard project length in Meisterplan
If you already know more details about the project you're adding, like the department or status, you can check the Add more project details box before clicking Add. You can then specify those project details in the next step. See the Viewing and Editing Projects article for details.
New projects will be inserted at the left edge of the visible timeline by default. When the left edge of the visible timeline is in the past, the view will automatically scroll to the current day when you add a project, such that the new project will start on the current day (or the next work day on public holidays and weekends).
Adding a Project to a Portfolio with a Project Filter
When adding a project to a portfolio with a project filter, appropriate values will be set for all fields included in that filter to keep the project in the portfolio.
This may include fields that are not currently visible because you have no project field rights for them.
Duplicating a Project
Via the project context menu, you can duplicate a project. This includes allocations, milestones, financials and other data, except milestone dependencies.
When you duplicate a project, the copy will open and you can amend the project's details. See the Viewing and Editing Projects article for details.
Allocating Roles and Resources
Click the plus icon in the new project's row header to allocate roles and resources. See the Adding and Editing Allocations article for details.
Editing a Project
To edit an existing project, click the pencil icon after that project's name in the Portfolio Designer.
This will open the project details view, where you can edit project fields and view further project details such as Actuals, milestones and project score details.
See the Viewing and Editing Projects article for details.
All entries will be directly applied. When you change the start date of a project, the finish date changes by the same number of days so the project length remains the same. To shorten a project, choose an earlier finish date.
When you are done entering data, click Back on the top right to return to the previous view.
Viewing a Project
Please note that you can only see projects in your current date range.
Editing projects in the plan of record requires the Edit Plan of Record right. Editing projects in a scenario requires edit rights for that scenario.
Whenever a project cannot be edited but only viewed, an eye icon will be displayed after the project's name instead of the pencil icon:
Clicking the eye icon will open the project's details with project fields, financial events, milestones and project score details. You cannot edit any data in this view.
