Resource keys allow you to quickly identify the right person in Meisterplan and match them with each resource's internal personnel number. This ensures the accuracy of data import, even across different tools.
General
To view and edit the Resource Key field, you need to be in a user group with the Edit Resource Pool, Absences, OBS, Calendar and Skills right.
The Resource Key is used to uniquely identify a resource or a team, even if its name is identical with another resource's or team's name.
To see all Resource Keys in the Resource or Teams list, you can configure the Resource Key as a column. For more details, see the Resource Pool - Resources and Resource Pool - Teams article.
How Resource Keys Work
The Resource Key is a mandatory field and cannot be left empty. Meisterplan automatically generates Resource Keys so you do not need to fill them in. If you prefer to use your own keys or personnel numbers, learn below how to easily change auto-generated keys.
Auto-Generation of Resource Keys
For every new resource or team that is added to the system, Meisterplan will automatically generate a new Resource Key. Auto-generated Resource Keys begin with “MPR-“, followed by consecutive numbering (e.g., MPR-10, MPR-11). When you delete a Resource Key, this Resource Key can be used for new resources and teams, but only manually. Auto-generated Resource Keys will always count upwards from the last generated number.
Resource Key Field Properties
Resource Keys can contain numbers, letters or symbols in any combination as long as the key is unique for each Meisterplan resource. The field is not case-sensitive, so you cannot have two Resource Keys with "MPR-1" and "mpr-1" respectively.
Using Your Own Resource Keys
To use your own internal resource keys or IDs from other tools, you can change existing Resource Keys or import your internal keys along with new resources.
You can change an existing Resource Key in the resource's or team's detail view or in the Resource or Teams List. Simply click into the field and type or paste the correct key.
It is also possible to change Resource Keys using the REST API.
You cannot change existing Resource Keys with the Quick Import for Resources, because this would create new resources instead of updating existing resources.
To add new resources or teams with the desired Resource Key, import the resources along with their key using the Quick Import: Resources or the REST API. When you add a resource manually in the Resource Pool, you can change the auto-generated Resource Key immediately.
How Resource Keys and Quick Imports Work Together
To update resource data using Quick Imports, you need to identify the right resource or team in Meisterplan using their Resource Key. For the purpose of imports and exports, a team's Resource Key is called a Team Key. A resource's name does not have to be unique and cannot be used for identifying a project.
To ensure you have the right Resource Key for each resource, simply export the resources using the Export to Excel for Resources. All current Resource Keys will be included in the export file. There is not currently an export function for Teams; however, information such as Team Key will be shown in the export of actual time worked or allocation exports.

When adding new resources using the Quick Import: Resources, you can either add your desired Resource Key in the import spreadsheet or leave the column empty. Meisterplan will automatically generate new Resource Keys for resources or teams that are imported without keys.
