Meisterplan licensing is based on the number of resources you manage and the edition you choose.
How Does Licensing Work?
Our licensing model is based on the edition (Basic, Pro, Premium) you choose in combination with the number of resources you manage in Meisterplan. This includes active and future resources, as well as additionally planned role capacity.
Please note: In Meisterplan, resources do not refer to users. For details on the difference between resources and users, see the article "Users" vs. "Resources" in Meisterplan.
Which Editions Are Available?
Meisterplan is available in three editions: Basic, Pro, and Premium. Each edition offers a different range of features tailored to various needs.

What Types of Resources Are There in Meisterplan?
In Meisterplan, the following types of resources exist:
-
Individual Resources (people or tangible assets): If you plan using individual resources, you will directly assign which person should work on which project. A resource could be one of your employees, but you can also plan for external resources or materials such as machines. Each named person or each material planned in Meisterplan counts as one individual resource. Whether a resource is assigned to a project or not does not matter for the calculation.
- Active Resources: A resource is considered active if its start date has already been reached and its exit date is still in the future. Each active resource counts towards your resource consumption as one resource.
- Future Resources: Resources with a start date in the future are considered future resources and are counted towards your resource consumption.
- Additional Role Capacity in FTE: A role is a higher-level function, such as "Senior Developer" or "Project Manager". It is created in the Resource Pool and assigned to individual resources. The capacity of a role is initially determined by the total capacity of all resources assigned to it. However, if there are not enough resources available, you can assign additional capacity to a role without assigning resources in the Resource Pool. This is referred to as Additional Role Capacity. Here, one FTE corresponds to one full additional resource. Whether a role is specifically assigned to a project or not does not affect the calculation.
- Teams: Teams are groups of individual resources and are used for better organization. They do not count toward resource consumption, as they are not independent, plannable units themselves. Teams need to have at least one future or active resource assigned in order to be allocated to a project.
How to Calculate Your Number of Resources
To calculate your total resource consumption to find out how many licensed resources you need, you simply add Active and Future Individual Resources and Additional Role Capacity.
Whether you plan using individual resources or additional role capacity, you will need a resource package that covers at least the number of people you wish to plan with.
Please note that if you want to plan using multiple scenarios, the additional role capacity will be based on the scenario with the highest resource consumption.
Here are some examples:
- You plan only on the resource level: You have 25 employees and 6 external resources that you occasionally use. You also want to track the usage of a machine in Meisterplan. So, you need a package that includes at least 32 resources.
- You plan only on the role level: You don't work with individual resources but plan their capacities solely through roles. For example, if you are planning with around 200 employees, you should choose a package that covers at least 200 resources.
- You plan on both the resource and role levels: If you have 95 employees, the number of your active individual resources is 95. You find that the workload of your 30 Java developers is too high. Therefore, you assign an additional three FTE to the Java Developer role, on top of the existing capacity of 30, which you want to allocate to freelancers. Your total resource consumption is now 98 (95 + 3), so you should choose a package that covers up to 100 resources.
-
You plan on the role level and use scenarios: In addition to your plan data, you use a scenario where you simulate the workload due to large order. You also use a scenario where your production runs slower than expected. You assign the following additional capacities to your roles:
Developer Project Manager Consultant Additional
Role CapacityPlan of Record 1 FTE 4 FTE 1 FTE 6 FTE Scenario 1 3 FTE 2 FTE 4 FTE 9 FTE Scenario 2 2 FTE 1 FTE 5 FTE 8 FTE
In summary, to calculate Resource Consumption, add:
- The total number of active and future resources and
- The highest number of resources based on additional role capacity from any single scenario or plan of record
