Use the FTE unit to calculate allocations, capacity and workload in Meisterplan.
FTE in Meisterplan
Meisterplan displays capacity and allocations of resources in hours, person days or full time equivalents (FTE). To define how many hours a person day has, customize the settings under Manage > Advanced.
One FTE equals the sum of a resource's working hours during the period considered, e.g., in the course of a week. So the actual amount of working hours of an FTE depends on the selected time period, the system's default calendar and that calendar's exceptions.
FTE and the Default Calendar
In the following example, you can see a default calendar with a 40 hour week. Wherever the default calendar applies, 1 FTE equals 40 working hours or 5 working days in any week without a holiday:
See the Manage Calendars (Working Hours) article for more details.
FTE and Default Calendar in a Week with Public Holidays
In weeks with public holidays (calendar exceptions), an FTE equals fewer hours depending on the number of public holidays in that week.
For example, in the Christmas week 2020, the following exceptions may be defined from Thursday, the 24th, to Saturday, the 26th of December:
Day | Date | Working Hours |
---|---|---|
Thu | 12/24/2020 | 4 |
Fri | 12/25/2020 | 0 |
Sat | 12/26/2020 | 0 |
These exceptions replace the default entries of 8 hours per day in the week they apply to. The 26th is a Saturday, so it is not relevant for the default calendar. The actual working hours for the Christmas week 2020 are as follows:
Monday | Tuesday | Wednesday | Thursday | Friday | Saturday | Sunday |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
8 | 8 | 8 | 4 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
In this week, 1 FTE therefore equals 28 working hours or 3.5 person days.
FTE and Other Calendars
You can define calendars with different working hours, but the FTE unit always refers to the default calendar. The capacity and workload of resources with other calendars is also displayed in default calendar FTE.
For example, for a resource with the following calendar, the capacity during a normal week without calendar exceptions (public holidays) is 48 hours which equals 48/40 hours = 1.2 FTE.
In a week with calendar exceptions in the default calendar, 1 FTE equals fewer hours, and the working hours of the other calendar may or may not be fewer.
For example, in the Christmas week 2020, the capacity of the resource with the above-mentioned other calendar would be 28/28 = 1 FTE.
