Configure milestone-specific fields and views for your system to manage milestone information consistently and in a structured way. To learn how to add, edit, and filter milestones, see the article Using Milestones.
General
To ensure that milestones in Meisterplan contain consistent and relevant information, you can configure which fields are displayed and where they are displayed. You can also add custom milestone fields and display them wherever they are needed.
You can track changes made to milestones in the project's Change Log.
Required User Rights
If the Milestones section is configured in the Project Details, it is visible to all users who can open the project. All users can view milestones for the projects they have access to.
To configure milestones and their fields, your user group requires the following user rights under System Administration > System Configuration > Add, Edit, and Delete Project-, Program, and Resource-Related Settings:
- To configure the Milestones section in the Project Details and the 'Add & Edit Milestones' Form, the Types & Configurations (Add Form, Details, Overview (if applicable)) right.
- To add, edit, and delete milestone fields, the Custom Fields (Projects, Programs, Risks, Resources, Milestones) right.
Managing Milestone Fields
In Meisterplan, fields for milestones are managed separately from project or program fields. Under Manage > Custom Fields > Milestones, you can add, edit, and delete custom milestone fields:
You will see a list of all milestone fields in your system. To display a milestone field in the Project Details, add it to the view configuration.
System Fields for Milestones
The following system fields are available for milestones:
- Name (required field)
- Date (required field): Set the milestone date. You can only select from dates within the project's date range.
- Key (required field): If you do not specify a milestone key, the system will assign a key automatically. You can edit this field at any time.
- Project Phase: Project phases are managed under Manage > Advanced. When you have selected a project phase, the start of said project phase will be the previous milestone or the project start, and the project phase will end with the milestone you've just created. You can use the same project phase in several milestones. Learn more in the article Project Phases.

Status: You can select from the following statuses:
- On Track
- Needs Attention
- Off Track
- Done
You can configure these fields as needed in the Project Details and in the 'Add & Edit Milestones' Form. Name and Date are required fields and cannot be removed from the configuration, all other fields are optional.
Custom Milestone Fields
Create custom fields for your milestones to manage exactly the information you organization needs. Under Manage > Custom Fields> Milestones, click Add Milestone Field and select the field type:
Fill in the following fields:
- Name
- API Name: milestone field name for data exchange using via API. The column name is automatically prefixed with “cust_” after saving and cannot be edited after saving the field. Maximum number of characters: 58.

Option (only for the types Single-Select and Multi-Select): options available in the drop-down menu
- Name
- Color (only single-select): here, you can specify which color will be used for the option, like when you use a color scheme in a view.
- Decimal Places (only for the type Number): number of decimal places; you can choose between 0-3 decimal places. This selection cannot be changed after creating the field.
To edit or delete a custom milestone field, hover over the respective entry and select the appropriate icon at the end of the row:
Configuring the Milestones Section in the Project Details
In the left sidebar, click Manage > Types & Configurations > Project Types and select the project details of the type where you want to display milestones. Add a new tab via Add Tab or select an existing tab to display milestones. In the toolbar, click Add Section > Milestones:
Select the columns you want to display:
You can select all milestone fields, both custom and system fields. You can change the order using drag and drop.
In the top right, click Apply. You can check how your configuration is displayed in any project's details:
System fields such as Key cannot be deleted. However, you can decide whether you want to display them in the milestone table in the Project Details. Name and Date are required fields and are always displayed in the table.
