Prerequisites
To use the new Portfolio Designer, beta access must be enabled for both your system (by administrators) and in your user profile. You can find all the details in the article Meisterplan's Beta Program.
Required User Rights
- To add projects, you need the Add Projects permission under Manage > User Groups > Project & Resource Planning > General Project Rights.
- To change a project's rank, you need the Change Rank permission under Manage > User Groups > Project & Resource Planning > General Project Rights
- To move a project, you need at least the Mine permission under Manage > User Groups > Project & Resource Planning > Edit Projects, as well as the Change Project Schedule permission under Detailed Project Rights
Where to Find
Open the Portfolio Designer in the left sidebar. In the top right, you'll find a toggle that allows you to switch between the classic view and the new version (rocket icon):
Current Beta Functionality
The beta version of the Portfolio Designer is under active development. With this first step, the following basic functions are available to you, and will gradually be supplemented with additional features:
- General Settings: Select the allocation unit, zoom level, and ad-hoc filters, then save your configuration as a custom view.
- Search: Use the search function to conveniently search for project names or keys
- Configure View: Click Configure View and check the box next to Aggregate by Role to summarize capacity and allocations by roles in the resource section.
- Adding Projects
-
Filtering Projects: The ad-hoc filter for projects is no longer located in the toolbar, but directly above the project area:
- Prioritizing Projects in the List
- Moving Projects in the Gantt Chart
- Undo actions: If you have moved a project, you can undo this change using the arrow icon in the toolbar. Please note that you can only undo your last action.
Track in real time how your adjustments affect resources and allocations. Meisterplan visually highlights affected areas directly in the resource view and in the filtered histograms. This allows you to identify potential bottlenecks early and respond specifically to changes.
Even with large volumes of data, you can work with the modernized Portfolio Designer in a responsive and high-performance interface.
You can find more details in the article Portfolio Designer - Overview.
Easily Identify Conflicts
In the new Portfolio Designer, conflicts can be identified more clearly and at an earlier stage. They are displayed not only in the Gantt chart, but also in the Project List as a red line:
Overallocation of resources, teams, or roles is immediately visible for each project, regardless of whether the aggregated resource view in the histogram is collapsed or expanded.
Additionally, the resource histogram in the new Portfolio Designer adapts to the allocation unit you selected (FTE, days, hours), making capacity fluctuations more realistically visible. This allows you to detect issues early and manage your portfolio more effectively.
Automatic Synchronization of Your Data
Any changes you make in the beta version of the Portfolio Designer are automatically synchronized with the current version, and vice versa.
When you edit projects, your updates are instantly applied in both versions of the Portfolio Designer. The views are fully synchronized, ensuring that all adjustments are immediately visible across all relevant perspectives. It makes no difference whether the changes are made by you, other users, or through an import.
What's Coming Next
- Quickly detect new problem indicators such as overallocation or milestones with unmet dependencies, allowing you to take proactive action
- View and edit allocations directly in time grid or phase mode
