How Can Your Own SMTP Server Help You?
Meisterplan sends all emails using the cloud infrastructure of Mailgun by default. If you would like to use your own SMTP server, you can configure this in Meisterplan. This is helpful if your organization prefers to use its own SMTP server, or if you want to increase uniformity in your organization and have Meisterplan emails be sent from your company's internal email platform.
Configuring your own SMTP server will enable all notification emails, like when you've been mentioned in a comment, to be sent from your own SMTP server. Please note that subscription and marketing related content is excluded from this setting and will still be sent using the Meisterplan default email infrastructure.
Where to Find
You must have the user right Manage System SMTP under Administrative Rights enabled to configure your system's SMTP Server.
You can enable your system's SMTP by clicking Manage > Configure SMTP Server.
How to Enable
At the top of your screen, toggle Use Own SMTP Server on.
You must then enter the following information:
- Server address
- Port
- You must have TLS enabled on your mail server
- SMTP Username
- SMTP Password
- The Sender address
- The Reply-To address
Using Microsoft 365 to Send Emails
Most SMTP servers are supported. The most important requirement is that it uses an encrypted connection. Unencrypted connections are not supported.
If you prefer to send emails using Microsoft cloud products, the authentication settings need to support SMTP AUTH for that specific mailbox. See the official Microsoft documentation for more details.
In most cases, the server is smtp.office365.com and the port is port 587. If you have MFA (multifactor authentication) enabled, the password is a separate app password as described in the Microsoft documentation.
Testing Your Configuration
To enable your SMTP-Server, you must first test your configuration. After you have entered your SMTP's information, click Test Your Configuration. An email will then be sent via your mail server to test your configuration.
Disabling Your Custom SMTP Server
To disable your SMTP server and instead use Meisterplan's default infrastructure (i.e., Mailgun), simply toggle Use Own SMTP Server off.
