This article describes how to add, edit and delete scenarios in Meisterplan.
Where to Find
To create, duplicate, edit, delete or archive a scenario, go to Manage > Scenarios.
There, you will find an alphanumerically sorted overview of all your scenarios, including some data like which users and/or user groups have edit rights, or if it is archived. By clicking on a heading, the entries in the column will be sorted in either ascending or descending order.
Required User Rights
- All scenarios are visible to all users. Users with editing rights may also edit scenarios.
- Without editing rights, an eye icon will be displayed in the header next to the scenario name.
- Under Manage > User Groups, in the section Administrative Rights, under Manage Scenarios, a user needs to have at least the option According to Configured Scenario Rights in order to create, edit or delete a scenario.
- Under Manage > User Groups, in the section Administrative Rights, under Manage Scenarios, if a user has at least the option According to Configured Scenario Rights, they can assign edit rights to a scenario.
- To replace the Plan of Record with a scenario, you need to have the Replace Plan of Record with Scenario right.
Adding a Scenario
To add a scenario based on the Plan of Record, select Add Scenario under Manage > Scenarios:
Enter a name and assign editing rights to any other users that should also be permitted to modify data in the new scenario. Editing rights and other scenario properties may be modified by users with at least the option According to Configured Scenario Rights under Manage Scenarios in the section Administrative Rights.
Copy a Scenario
To create a new scenario based on a non-Plan of Record scenario, hover over the scenario and click the three dots under Manage > Scenario and select Duplicate.
You can then edit the name of this copy, as well as who has edit rights. Then, select Duplicate to finish copying your scenario.
You can duplicate any scenario under Manage > Scenarios as long as you have at least the option According to Configured Scenario Rights under Manage Scenarios in the section Administrative Rights.
This will not affect your original version of the scenario. The person copying the scenario is assigned edit rights by default.
Editing a Scenario
To edit a scenario, hover over a scenario and click on the pen icon.
Replace Plan of Record with Scenario
To replace the Plan of Record with the scenario you have open under Manage > Scenarios, select Replace Plan of Record with Scenario.
The entire Plan of Record will be replaced with the selected scenario, including all portfolios. The selected scenario remains and can be used for further planning; changes made in the Plan of Record will not be transferred to this scenario.
The current Plan of Record is not automatically saved before being replaced by the scenario. To save the Plan of Record beforehand, simply create a new scenario as a backup.
Instead of transferring the entire scenario, you can transfer individual projects from the scenario to the Plan of Record. Learn more in the article Scenario Comparison.
Scenario Consolidation
For projects existing both in the active scenario and in the Plan of Record or compared scenario, you may apply all scenario dependent project data from the Plan of Record or compared scenario via the Apply Project from Plan of Record or Apply Project from Compared Scenario option of the project context menu. You may also submit changes made in the active scenario to the Plan of Record or compared scenario via the Submit Project to Plan of Record or Submit Project to Compared Scenario options of the project context menu.
You must be in a non-Plan of Record scenario, or a scenario comparison in order to do this.
All of the following project data will be overwritten in the target scenario or Plan of Record:
- Start, Finish
- Milestones
- Milestone dependencies (if associated milestones exist in the Plan of Record or target scenario)
- Financial events
- Role and resource allocations
- Rank
- Program (if the program doesn't exist in the Plan of Record or target scenario, it will be created there).
If you want to copy a project that only exist in one scenario to another scenario or the Plan of Record, you can copy the project and all of its data with the previously mentioned Submit Project to Plan of Record or Submit Project to Compared Scenario options to the target scenario of the Plan of Record.
Delete a Scenario
To delete a scenario, hover over a scenario and click on the three dots; then select Delete.
Archive a Scenario
Set a scenario as Archived if it is no longer an active scenario but you would still like to keep it. Archived scenarios can no longer be opened and will no longer be available in the scenario menu or for reporting. They will be displayed under Manage > Scenarios with a check in the column Archived. Archived scenarios can be hidden by selecting Hide Archived Scenarios under Manage > Scenarios.
