In this video we show you how to configure project fields in Meisterplan.
Required User Rights
- To define for each user group and for each project field which group has read only and which has edit rights, users need to have the Manage Users and User Groups right.
- To add, change or delete project fields, as well as change the project fields values, users need to have the Manage Project Fields, Project Settings, Project Overview and Advanced right. To display a project field in each view, users need to add it to the configuration of the respective view (e.g., Project List, Board).
- However, please note that users with the Import Data right can add new values for custom project fields of the Lookup type when importing data.
How to Find
In the left Sidebar, click Manage and select Project Fields:
The list displays all project fields in your Meisterplan system in alphabetical order. To display a project field in a view (e.g., Project List, Project Overview), add it to the configuration of the respective view.
In addition to the project fields that you can configure in this view, there are also system fields in Meisterplan. Learn more in the System Fields for Project Information article.
Adding Custom Project Fields
You may add any number of custom project fields in Meisterplan. Add new custom project fields by using the Add Field menu:
Select the field type and fill in the following fields:
- Column Name: field name for data exchange using via API. The column name is automatically prefixed with “cust_” and cannot be edited after adding the field. Maximum number of characters: 58 characters.
- Nice Name: the field name displayed in Meisterplan and in the Export to Excel. Maximum number of characters: 2,048 characters.
- Description (optional): internal description which is only displayed in the configuration and serves as a comment for other users.
New project fields will be visible to all user groups by default. User groups with edit rights for at least one existing project field will be automatically granted edit rights for new project fields.
To display this field in each view, add it to the configuration of the respective view (e.g., Project List).
Editing Custom Project Fields
Once created, you can open and change a custom project field's attributes by double-clicking its list item or by clicking the pencil icon at the end of the line.
Deleting Custom Project Fields
To delete a custom project field, hover over its entry in the list and click the trashcan icon. You can delete all project fields except the Status system field.
When a project field is deleted, any existing field values will be removed. The field will no longer be available for importing data.
Preconfigured Project Fields in Trial Systems
Meisterplan Trials come with preconfigured project fields that you can use, edit or delete under Manage > Project Fields (exception: Status is a system field and cannot be deleted).
