This article explains how to connect Microsoft Copilot to the Meisterplan MCP server via Copilot Studio. Once connected, your Copilot agent can access your Meisterplan data directly and answer questions about your portfolio.
Prerequisites
Make sure the following prerequisites are met:
- The Access to MCP Server right is enabled for your user group (under Manage > User Groups > Views & Areas > AI Features).
- You have created and copied an MCP server API token. To do this, navigate to My Profile > Manage Apps > API Tokens and select the type MCP Server. Copy the token immediately as it cannot be displayed again after this step.
- You have access to Microsoft Copilot Studio.
For details on access rights and user accounts, see the article Meisterplan MCP Server.
Create an Agent in Copilot Studio
Open Microsoft Copilot Studio and create a new blank agent. Choose a name that is based on the name of your Meisterplan instance, so you can easily identify the agent.
Add an MCP Connection
Video Instructions
Step-by-Step Instructions
Note: The steps in this article are based on the Classic Experience in Copilot Studio. If you are using the New Experience, the interface may look different. However, the basic steps for setting up an MCP connection remain the same.
In your agent, click Add a Tool and select Model Context Protocol.
Fill in the following fields:
-
Name: Enter a name for the connection, for example the name of your Meisterplan system.
Do not use special characters in the name. -
Description: Enter a short description (at least 30 characters).
-
Server URL: Enter the MCP server URL. The URL depends on whether your Meisterplan system is hosted in the EU or the US:
EU: https://mcp.eu.meisterplan.com/mcp
US: https://mcp.us.meisterplan.com/mcp -
Authentication: Select API Key and enter the word Authorization as the header name.
Authenticate the Connection
Grant the MCP server access by entering your Meisterplan MCP server API token.
Use the following format:
Bearer + space + <API token>
For example, this could look as follows:
Bearer abc123xyz
Verify and Test the Connection
Copilot Studio may ask you to verify the connection. Follow the link displayed and confirm the connection.
Once connected, you can start asking your agent questions. For example:
How many projects are in the Plan of Record?
Give me an overview of all projects with the highest rank and their current status.
Summarize the latest comments on project X.
Compare the total costs and earned value of the projects in scenario "Proposal A".
Tips for Use
- Use a powerful model: The quality of responses depends on the AI model being used. Use a powerful model for more accurate results.
- Add instructions: Use the Instructions section in Copilot Studio to teach the agent the terminology and abbreviations used in your Meisterplan system. This helps the agent understand system-specific terms such as option field values or project field names.
-
Use a dedicated user account: If you share the agent with multiple people, we recommend using a dedicated user account for the MCP connection.
