Manage Project and Resource KeysAll Editions
Add unique project and resource keys that match your internal IDs to always identify and update the right project or person. This ensures the accuracy of data imports even across different tools.
User Rights
Project Key field rights: With the release, all user groups that have edit rights to at least one project field were granted the edit right to the new Project Key field. User groups with read-only or no project field rights were granted read-only rights to the new field.
Resource Key rights: With the release, all user groups that have the Edit Resource Pool and Absences right are able to edit the Resource Key field in the detail view of a resource. Other user groups do not have rights to the field.
See the Manage User Groups article for details on how to change these rights.
Effect on Your Meisterplan System
With the release, Meisterplan has automatically generated keys for all projects and resources in your system. The generated Project Keys begin with “MPP-“ and Resource Keys with ”MPR-“, followed by consecutive numbering (e.g. MPP-23).
If you are already working with project or resource keys using custom or unused fields, you can copy them manually into the new field using the new Inline Edit functionality. It is also possible to transfer these keys to their new fields using the REST API.
Prevent Duplicates
It is not possible to change the keys of existing projects or resources using the import via Excel template or the Quick Import. If you try updating existing projects or resources with new keys in either of these imports, new projects and resources will be added as duplicates.
You can find more details on how to use your own keys instead of the automatically generated keys in the Project Keys and Resource Keys article.
Effect on Using Quick Imports
Project and Resource Keys are now mandatory identifiers for the Quick Imports, so all spreadsheets used in the Quick Import must include the project or resource keys.
This affects the following types of Quick Import:
- Projects
- Resources
- Allocation List
- Allocation Matrix
- Actual Time Worked
- Milestones
- Financial Events
- Resource Absences
You can use the Export to Excel to export spreadsheets that include the right keys for the Quick Import.
To learn more about keys, see the Project Keys and Resource Keys articles.
Import Allocations Using a MatrixAll Editions
You can now easily import allocation data in a time grid format (matrix) with fixed, recurring time intervals, no Excel template or interface programming necessary. This type of import works well if you plan your allocations on a monthly or weekly basis.
The new Quick Import: Allocation Matrix allows you to add or update all allocations within the specified time period, regardless of which spreadsheet formats you use:
In the header, select the scenario into which you want to import your allocations. Then click Import and Export in the Portfolio Designer and select Quick Import. Click Allocation Matrix and follow the steps. Before importing, you will get a preview with all the details on the import so you can edit your data in this step as needed.
Learn more in the Quick Import: Allocation Matrix article.
Minor Changes
Make Quick Inline EditsAll Editions
In the Project List and in the Resource Pool, you can now quickly edit fields such as project and resource keys or names by simply clicking on them in the list view. This Inline Edit functionality is available for all fields of the String type.
Export to Excel No Longer in Beta PhaseAll Editions
With the release of Project and Resource keys and the Allocation Matrix Quick Import, the new Export to Excel is now complete and no longer in Beta phase.
The Export to Excel allows you to clearly define just the data you want to export. In combination with the Quick Imports, you can easily keep your Meisterplan data up to date.
Learn more in the Export to Excel article.
As announced before, this intuitive and user-friendly Export to Excel will eventually replace the older technology of the Excel import and export interface in Meisterplan by the end of March 2022.
