Learn how to adjust the work effort calculation of a project's linked Jira issues to make realistic plans. We'll let you know where it may be useful to get help from your organization's Jira expert.
Technical Requirements
To link a project with Jira, your Meisterplan user account must have the following rights:
- Access level "User" (or higher)
- Editing rights for the current scenario or the Plan of Record
- The Meisterplan project you will link must also belong to the current portfolio
Administrators can edit user rights through the Manage > Users view.
Additionally, you need to know in which Jira field the respective project team writes their effort estimates. If you're unsure about this, just ask your internal Jira expert (e.g., the respective project lead or scrum master/agile coach, or the team itself).
Adjust the Work Effort Calculation
Meisterplan takes into account the (estimated) work effort specified in Jira for Jira issues (such as stories or bugs) as well as a project's resource allocation to calculate the predicted finish date and estimate the number of Jira issues that can be completed.
By default, Meisterplan uses the effort value from the Jira field "Remaining Estimate". This setting is project specific.
To customize the Jira field used for effort for a specific project, proceed as follows:
Step 1: Select the project and then click Project Settings in the sidebar on the right of the screen:
Step 2: Under Effort Based On, select the desired Jira field:
Which fields are available here depends on how the Jira project which contains the Jira issues linked to this Meisterplan project is configured .
If you're unsure about which field to select for this project, ask your internal Jira expert (e.g., the respective project lead or scrum master/agile coach, or the team itself).
Step 3: (optional): If you have selected a field in which efforts are given in integer values (for example, story points), then you can also adjust the number of Story Points per Person Day.
If you need help with this, just ask your internal Jira expert (e.g., the respective project lead or scrum master/agile coach, or the team itself).
The following shows how the estimated work effort of an issue is calculated:
Estimated effort (in hours) = Estimated effort (in story points etc.) x Story Points per Person Day
This setting is also project-specific.
Step 4: Confirm by clicking Apply.
